Security Questions

I understand that the only program one will have to uninstall when upgrading to Vista Beta 2 is anti-virus. So my follow up question to that is...
Will I be able to re-install my anti-virus software when I upgrade to Vista or does it even make sense to do that all all? In other words, will windows Vista Beta 2 actually have better security then what is currenty out on the market anyway?
Yes, I understand that beta doesnt mean I will not get an attack but I am wondering if the defualt security for Windows Vista (even for a beta) is most likely better then any current anti-virus out there!

No ... you will need to download antivirus designed especially for Windows Vista.

Windows vista is very secure when it comes to blocking against automated internet attacks (ie, nasties that come in while browsing the web), and it does *help you help yourself* from running bad programs.
What do I mean by that? When a program tries to mess with your system, windows asks you if you want to allow that program to continue. It doesn't work like antivirus, where it automatically detects bad programs ... you have to be paying attention to what you are doing, and block things that you know you didn't ask to happen.

I would say ... no. Security in Vista relies on YOU keeping track of what you are doing and working WITH windows to protect your computer ... while antivirus automatically detects known baddies and blocks them.
You see, these two technologies WORK TOGETHER to provide a very secure system.
So, use them both together :)

That is not necessarily true, there are Vista specific products available, but some non-Vista antivirus products work in Vista. ---------- Mark Dietz PROnetworks <http://www.pro-networks.org>

Trend has a pc-cillin beta for vista currently available. This is currently the only AV that MS is recommending for Vista

Thanks Jimmy and thanks everyone else!
I have heard about the new approach to security in vista relying more on the user and it makes sense to me. Its going to be a lot for people to get used to but as you say its most likely best.
The
ironic thing here is that I am asking if Vista will be secure without my anti-virus software on it while writing the question on a XP machine that runs completely on Admin account!

one last question before my saturday morning of installing Vista.
The firewall software that I am using is actually the firewall software that comes native to the windows XP security patch. I assume that the upgrade process knows this well enough to do whatever it needs to do this type of firewall before upgrading.
Thanks
